Equalizent was founded in 2004 in Vienna. Its core mission is to develop and implement vocational qualification programs tailored to unemployed deaf youth, young adults, and adults. All courses are conducted in sign language by deaf trainers (peers) to ensure full accessibility. The programs also include personal coaching (empowerment), as well as job application training and support in finding employment.
Another central focus is to facilitate encounters between hearing people and the deaf community – for example, through sign language courses, shared events, or the interactive exhibition HANDS UP!, which offers insights into deaf culture and the everyday lives of deaf people.
